Weekly Car Blog Post 3

Finishing General Details and Paneling

I didn't get as much progress done this week as I would have liked due to time constraints with my other major final project also being heavily involved with modelling, though I'm glad to say that what I have done hasn't caused me any major headaches and looks pretty good in my opinion.

I focused on the rear of the car, finishing details and paneling that I hadn't had a chance to get to previously. Firstly, I created the trunk, which I made out of several faces from the body which I separated and paneled.

I then paneled the corresponding part of the body, which rounded out the edges around the trunk.

Once I made this area, I began working on indented area of the very rear that houses the rear lights and signals, as well as the license plate groove. I first created the lights themselves and beveled them out to make sure they looked proper when smoothed.

Then, I cut around the outer edge and extruded the area around the lights so that it created the correct edge that the body has. It sort of curves around the lights and cradles them.

I also added the groove for the license plate, as seen above to the right of the lights. All put together the rear of the car now looks complete and all the base pieces are present and looking good so far.

The topology isn't 100% polished yet, which is why some of the wireframes look a bit weird, but as of now I have all the body pieces in place and I plan to start working on the glass pieces and subsequent exterior pieces like the bumpers next.
