HD subdivision model of a Lego car made of individually modelled bricks
For this assignment, we were tasked with modelling individual high definition Lego bricks to assemble into a car. Since this project has a lot of different pieces, I made a list of every brick I needed to make and began to mark them off as I went. The first thing I did was make the most simple bricks to get a feel for the process of creating them. I made the 1x1 brick independently, then to make the 1x2, 2x2, etc. basic bricks I modelled modular sections that I could use to build every basic brick just by putting them together.
Once I had these bricks down, I continued to work towards more and more complex variations, such as the plate and tile variations, as well as the ones with extensions like hooks, ridges, and holes. These bricks used the previously made ones as a base shape, and then I took the time to add in the unique details. I made an effort to try to make the topology as clean as I could to avoid potential future issues once I begin using beveling and subdivisions.
As of right now, I have about 3 more bricks to complete before I can begin texturing and rendering the assembled model. I'm currently working on the bearing piece, which has been going fairly well for the most part despite its complex shape. Lastly, I will be creating the wheels and rims to finish up the list. I'm looking forward to putting all the pieces together and making it come to life!
